Semi-elliptic Surface Crack

Sample Applications

Semi-elliptic Surface Crack

Growth of a semi-elliptic surface crack in a plate

This example shows the crack region of a bar under cyclic uni-axial tensile loading. The initial defect is elliptic. One side of the crack is modelled with symmetry constraints to represent the other side. Crack growth is in the plane of the initial crack.

The animations below show the crack growth for the problem when modelled with a "standard" crack-block. Alternative approaches and additional information on the analysis are discussed in the Zencrack Examples Manual.
